“No, no offers” Sheffield United reject that Arsenal have made a bid for Sander Berge

Arsenal’s projected bid

Reports emerged yesterday the Arsenal hand made a bid for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge.

The Norwegian international joined the Blades from Belgian side Genk during the 2020 January transfer window but was unable to aid in their survival bid as they return to the Championship after 2 seasons in the top flight.

Like many clubs, Sheffield United face the daunting possibility of losing many of their top players as Premier League sides aim to pillage cheaper deals from the three relegated clubs.

Arsenal are looking out for the opportunity to strengthen their midfield after a disappointing season which saw injuries to Thomas party in the first half of the campaign.

Dani Ceballos will return to Real Madrid after a disappointing second season at the Emirates. Granit Xhaka could also leave and Mohamed Elneny is not see as a first team quality player and more so a supporting member of the squad.

No bid for Berge

Despite the reports that the gunners had made a beard it has now come out directly from Sheffield United that this is not the case.

“No, no offers. We know how things work,” said interim boss Paul Heckingbottom.

“If there is anything happening for our players it’s bubbling away behind the scenes until windows open and things can possibly happen, but it is all paper talk.

“Most of the questions you get asked about possible targets never ever comes to fruition.

“Ninety-odd percent of it will never surface. At the minute it is all just rumour and speculation. We’ve had no bids for our players.”

Whether this is purely a way to keep discussions behind closed doors is unknown but a possibility.

Alternatively, Arsenal may be looking at other targets such as Yves Bissouma from Brighton.

The Malian midfielder is reportedly available for a sizeable fee should the Gunners want him.
