Beeline’s simple navigation interface guides users turn-by-turn
British routing and navigation company Beeline has partnered with European operator Tier to provide integrated navigation on its e-scooters as part of London’s rental e-scooter trial.
Tier has integrated Beeline’s routing software and navigation interface into its app for users in the UK capital. Riders will be able to type in their destination within the app and Beeline’s routing algorithm will offer a variety of journey options, based on the type of ride they want to take.
Guided by navigation interface
Through their phones, which can be placed on Tier’s wireless-charging docks, a simple navigation interface will guide users to their destination, providing turn-by-turn directions as well as other journey-tracking details like speed, distance and estimated time of arrival.
Beeline’s routing engine is enhanced by community feedback that creates custom routes based on road ratings submitted by cyclists and other e-scooter riders. According to Beeline, this ensures that every journey is recommended by other road users, creating safer, easier and more enjoyable trips by greener modes of transport.
The software has been further customised to offer route suggestions that will avoid Transport for London “no-go zones” and boroughs not participating in the trial. Riders will also be guided to the nearest parking bay, enhancing the user experience, and further encouraging Tier e-scooters to be parked in an orderly manner.
“As more people look to take sustainable journeys throughout London, we want to provide them with trips that are safe, simple and enjoyable,” said Tom Putnam, Beeline co-founder.
“It’s vital that when people are taking less carbon-intensive journeys, like riding an e-scooter, we are rewarding them with trips that they enjoy which is pivotal to encouraging long-term behavioural change”
“We are delighted to partner with Tier and share our routing and navigation expertise which benefits riders and the scheme’s operation in London. It’s vital that when people are taking less carbon-intensive journeys, like riding an e-scooter, we are rewarding them with trips that they enjoy which is pivotal to encouraging long-term behavioural change.”
London-based Beeline aims to help people take better journeys through intuitive navigation technology and its philosophy is to give the simplest information required for navigation while on the move.
“The Beeline navigation system is a brilliant addition to our vehicles and will provide Londoners with a seamless and intuitive way of getting from A to B on a Tier e-scooter. As well as being a useful navigation tool, it will also make the riding experience even safer and help to create a sense of community amongst Tier riders as they offer feedback on routes around the city,” added Fred Jones, vice president and regional general manager, Northern Europe at Tier.
“We are very excited to roll this out and see it become a hit with Londoners as the trial expands in the coming months.”
Founded in April 2015 by Mark Jenner and Tom Putnam, Beeline is backed by London venture capitalists Seedcamp and True.Global as well as the Mayor of London’s Co-investment Fund, Earlymarket and equity crowdfunding community, Seedrs.
It is also a recipient of grants from the European Space Agency and Innovate UK.
