Sergio Aguero’s incredible leaving gifts worth thousands to Man City staff

Sergio Aguero completed his free transfer to Barcelona this week, ending a 10-year spell at Manchester City that saw him win five Premier League titles, seven domestic cups and become the club’s all-time top scorer. But he wanted to show his gratitude to staff before he left.

Aguero said he was joining the ‘best club in the world’ when he was unveiled as a Barcelona player this week and revealed that Pep Guardiola has already told him the same thing. Yet City will forever have a huge place in his heart, having given the best years of his career to them.

The Athletic writes that Aguero gave every member of staff who works in the first-team building at the Etihad Campus either a Hublot or Tag Heuer watch engraved with ‘Gracias, Kun Aguero’. There are more than 60 staff and the Hublot watches alone are said to cost over £8,000 each.

Aguero also gave away his Range Rover Evoque by handing out raffle tickets to the staff and it was won by a member of the kit team, which the player is said to have found especially pleasing because of his respect and admiration for the department’s hard work.

Above and beyond the watches and the car, it is also said that Aguero gifted a ‘significant amount’ and well above what would usually be expected to a cash pot that the players pay into and give to the first-team support staff twice a year – at Christmas and the end of the season.

City have long been targeting a striker to prepare for Aguero’s departure. Harry Kane, Erling Haaland, Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez are the names they have most closely been keeping an eye on and chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has said he is ‘confident’ of securing a deal.

“We lose a very important legend in Sergio Aguero, very hard shoes to fill but I am confident that we will find the right player to fill those shoes,” Al Mubarak told City TV in his annual end of season interview.
