The importance of loan deals

With the new season already less than 10 weeks away, the movement of players is well underway in the world of football.

Clubs are organising who they want to have for next season and one of the most important parts is of course sending players away for development.

Whilst it is important to bring players through youth systems, the experiences of playing at senior level is an invaluable tool for both the players and clubs.

For the players it can be a first taste of playing against opposition with experienced pros in competitive leagues.

For the club, it can provide the evidence needed to assess players. Whether or not they are ready for the first team, areas which need to be tweaked or even to make a final choice on their future.

Premier League sides after send their youngsters out on loan further down the pyramid, with relationships developing between sides on a regular basis.

Arsenal sent a large number of players on loan and some had great success. Daniel Ballard for instance helped Blackpool reach and win the League 1 play-off final.

However for a player like Joseph Olowu who joined fifth tier side Wealdstone FC, he was released from the club at the completion of the season.

Arsenal name their loan list

For Arsenal, this season will be an exciting one for a number of players the fans of the senior side know already know plenty about.

Swedish striker Nikolaj Moller joined the club from Malmo in 2020 and has been an integral part of the u23 team.

At 101 we spoke with F.C. Copenhagen under-19s assistant coach Robin Asterhed. Asterhed worked with Moller for 2 years whilst a coach at Malmo FF. He described Moller as ‘huge player.’

“As you of course all know his physical presence. He is a huge player. 194cm, 90kg and for this size he is really mobile,”  he said.

“He can run in behind, he is quick in the first meters and makes quite well-timed runs.”
