Watching the webcam footage of bears fishing at Brooks Fall in Katmai National Park, Alaska has been one of the highlights of my summer. The livestream footage feels like I’m looking out of my office window at gorgeous brown bears fishing for salmon over a waterfall in Alaska. It honestly doesn’t get much better than that.

I was surprised to learn that the webcam keeps recording at night using infrared light, and that some bears will continue to fish despite the darkness. That gave me a good chuckle thinking that the salmon must feel like they never get a break from their big furry predators.

It’s funny to think that there’s a group of salmon waiting for the few hours of nightfall to make their big break up Brooks Falls thinking that they’ll outsmart the bears, only to be caught in the crushing grip of a bear waiting for them at the top of the falls.

These bears are hungry and aren’t giving any salmon a free pass up Brooks Falls, no matter the time of day!
