portuguese designer joão teixeira has done away with drawers and embraced smooth curves for this minimal desk that would look great in any home office setup. called ‘piano desk’, the design integrates a curved metal piece at the back where you can keep books and documents just like sheets of music on a piano. it can also be used to display flowers, photos, or other personal items.

if you’re a classic design enthusiast, you might find the leg profile of the piano desk familiar. that’s because joão teixeira took inspiration from the standard chair by jean prouvé. similarly, teixeira has utilized two very different materials — wood and metal — to create intriguing contrasts. on one hand, the timber offers warmth and tactility. and on the other, the metal provides a cool, sleek finish and also allows for slimmer profiles.
in addition to the contrasting materials, a key aspect of the piano desk is its curved forms; the rounded corners on both the wooden and metallic upper parts add a welcome touch of smoothness. designed to improve new working from home lifestyles, the piano desk comes in a variety of colors, materials and finishes to suit all tastes and interiors.
