Why Tierney is not in the Scotland team to play Czech Republic

No Tierney, Gilmour or Adams

Scotland start off their Euro 2020 with their must-win game against the Czech Republic.

With England and Croatia to come, many feel that failing to with today could end any hope of progression to the knockout rounds.

Steve Clarke named his squad and starting eleven but to the horror of many Scottish fans, Kieran Tierney was nowhere to be seen.

Clarke had seemingly perfected the way of playing with both Tierney and Andrew Robertson together in  3-5-2 or 3-4-3 system. However, that has been taken out of his hands.

Furthermore, he has decided not to start either Premier League talent of Che Adams from Southampton or Billy Gilmour from Chelsea.

The latter’s inexperience makes sense but Adams was expected to play a key role.

Tierney didn’t train

It is clear that previously reported news of an issue in training which were originally played down by coach John Carver were in fact serious.

It was revealed on Saturday the Arsenal star didn’t train fully with the squad in their final session at Middlesbrough’s training base.

Scotland assistant John Carver played down fitness concerns but it appears doubts over Tierney were justified.

Reported by the Daily Record, this could have a drastic effect on Clarke’s setup and attack plan for the game.

The Czech republic meanwhile have all three key starters in Tomas Soucek, Vladimir Coufal and Patrik Schick starting.
